The inaugural race in numbers
About the inaugural marathon
On July 17, 2026, Pitcairn Island hosted its first marathon, marking a milestone for one of the world's most remote inhabited islands. The lap format was designed to be accessible to runners and walkers of all abilities, with no time limit.
Shorter distances were also available free of charge to local Pitcairn Island residents. All finishers received a medal, a runner's T-shirt and a finisher certificate.
Most of the inaugural field were members of Marathon Globetrotters, a club dedicated to running a marathon in as many countries as possible. Pitcairn Island became the newest entry on some very long lists.
